La Emperatriz Estate.

Finca La Emperatriz is a historic vineyard in Baños de Rioja that belonged to the last Empress of France, Eugenia de Montijo. The wife of Napoleon III – the architect of the classification of Bordeaux in Crus – made wines on this estate in the 19th century, the quality of which was already recognised in the wine competition at the Universal Exhibition of 1878. A 101-hectare estate with the winery at its heart, in the Château style, which works entirely with grapes from its own vineyards to control the highest quality right from the source. Finca La Emperatriz is unique for its type of soil, very poor and made of pebbles deposited by the Oja River thousands of years ago, and for its location at an altitude of 570 metres above sea level and in one of the coldest areas of Rioja.
