Treviana and its Romanesque Centre is the starting point for enjoying and getting to know this route in depth. Through screenings, exhibitions, stonework and a space for educational workshops, we will establish the necessary knowledge to enjoy these places on the Rioja Alta Wine Route.
With the silence that characterises the Romanesque period, leaving Tirgo after visiting the Church of El Salvador, we will set off for the town of Castilseco, where we will visit the Church of San Julián, a small temple formed by a nave and a presbytery topped by a semicircular apse of singular beauty.
From here, we will head towards Villaseca, which houses the best and most complete example of Calceatense Romanesque style, the church of San Román, a beautiful temple in the Riojan Romanesque style from the end of the 12th century, which stands out for its apse. Under the square there is a necropolis with tombs that makes one think that the cemetery was located around a large temple.
We will continue our journey towards Treviana where we will discover the Chapel of the Conception, a coquettish unfinished Romanesque construction that has been recently restored. And we will end up in Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón, in its beautiful Sorejana chapel which dates from the 13th century and was extended in the 16th century with three Gothic sections. In 1981 it was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.
