The dolmens and hermitages wine trail: a journey through Rioja Ata’s heritage
San Vicente de la Sonsierra
We leave the town, bordering the castle, through the Barrio de San Juan. Cross the Rueda ravine and go up the path on the right. We reach the road to Baños, walk a few metres and take a path on the left. We border a quarry and arrive at the Necropolis of Artajona (San Pablo). Follow the path on the right and at the height of a hut, turn left and continue towards Ábalos.
Ábalos
After the urban route, we leave the village bordering the palace of the Marquis of Legarda, heading towards the recreational area “La Tejera” and the Romanesque chapel of Santa Maria.
Santa Maria de la Piscina
The complex consists of the hermitage, the remains of the ancient settlement of Pecina (Picinia) and the necropolis. An asphalted road will take us to the Cascaja Dolmen and, later, to the village of Peciña, where we will visit the church of San Martin and contemplate the panoramic view.
Hornillos Necropolis
The Camino del Romeral will lead us to the district of San Andrés, where we will find the large necropolis of Hornillos, which has graves, the remains of an old hermitage and two cave winepresses. The path then leads to the hermitage of San Martín. From this point we head towards the road, which we cross to take, shortly afterwards, a path on the left that leads to San Vicente.
Extension to the hermitage of the Virgen de La Rosa
The ascent from Ábalos to the hermitage of the Virgen de la Rosa is highly recommended. To do so, leave the village along the Virgen de la Rosa street, which later turns into a dirt track and, at the end, into a narrow path through the woods. The image of the hermitage can be seen at the end of the ascent, after an hour and a quarter of walking.
