Wine Tastings at the Castle – San Vicente de La Sonsierra

On 30 May, the wine tastings return to the Castle, allowing you to enjoy the colours of spring in the vineyard landscape, the historic surroundings and the excellent wines of Sonsera in the perfect setting: within the cellars of the walled enclosure. From 11.30 am to 3.00 pm, visitors will be able to taste quality wines with their own distinct character in an unrivalled setting – the castle’s cellars – whilst discussing the details of the winemaking process with the winegrowers and winemakers.

On 30 April, we will launch the early bird sale for €20 per pack, available until 27 May. Remember that if you buy your ticket during this period, you’ll be entered into a prize draw for bottles of wine from the participating wineries.

From 11.30 am to 3.00 pm, you can sample fine wines with their own distinct character in an unrivalled setting—the castle cellars—whilst discussing the details of the winemaking process with the winegrowers and winemakers themselves.

Between performances, you can take part in one of the guided tours (see GUIDED TOUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS*), explore the walled enclosure and visit the monumental Church of Santa María la Mayor, the Clock Tower and the headquarters of the Brotherhood of Santa Vera Cruz and the Disciplinantes (the “Picaos”). Due to capacity restrictions, the number of tickets for the event is limited.

• Programme:
  • Wine tastings at the Castle from 11.30 am to 3.00 pm. A unique opportunity to sample these exceptional wines in the cellars of the old winery district, set against the unrivalled backdrop of the walled enclosure.
    Guided tours of the walled enclosure. Visit an old wine cellar, traditional wine-making vats and the oldest rock-hewn wine press in La Rioja (advance booking essential)*.
  • Tasting of ham bites and wine-cured sausage skewers on the terrace of Las Catas, near the viewing platform walkway, next to the toilets (1 skewer per ticket).
    You can buy your favourite wines directly from the winemakers in the cellars.
  • A community meal will be served from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm in the Plaza Mayor. Tickets for the meal must be purchased separately from the drink packages; the price per person is €7.50 (includes a portion of potatoes with chorizo, bread and ice cream). Tables and chairs will be provided.
    Live music from 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm in the Plaza Mayor, performed by “Lagartijas Colorá”.
