The Wine Battle in La Rioja

The most famous festival in the city of Haro is held on Saint Peter's Day, 29 June, declared to be of NATIONAL TOURIST INTEREST, during which, on the cliffs of Bilibio, the "Wine Battle" is held, which Hergueta already mentions in his book published in 1906, and which maintains the same events as at the beginning of the century. The origin of this tradition seems to be a dispute over the ownership of these cliffs with the neighbouring town of Miranda de Ebro

Haro Station Wine Experience

This wine tourism event takes place in the Barrio de la Estación in Haro (La Rioja), where the largest number of century-old wineries in the world are concentrated. The participating wineries can be found in a unique enclave: Bodegas Bilbaínas Viña Pomal, CVNE, Bodegas Muga, Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta, S.A. and Bodegas RODA.

The Picaos of San Vicente

Religious procession with the category of National Interest that consists of the self-flagellation of the back of a group of people as an act of faith and voluntarily, called disciplinantes, by means of the continuous beating with a skein.

Grape Harvest Festival

The Grape Harvest Festival has been declared to be of national tourist interest. It is held in Logroño to coincide with the festival of San Mateo. Its origins date back to the 12th century, when the city of Logroño obtained the status of “Villa” and was granted the right to hold an annual fair, an act which in time made it an important trading centre.

Wine Carnival

The Haro Wine Carnival attracts thousands of visitors every year. It is a great spectacle accompanied by the best of local gastronomy and viticulture. One of the characteristics that make this festival so special is that each edition is unique; in previous years the themes have been Italian Baroque, the Middle Ages and the Age of Enlightenment, among others. It is held in the emblematic cloister of the Hotel Los Agustinos, a large covered space with a central courtyard and walls dating from the 14th century, which has been renovated combining its classical style with minimalist touches.

Briones Medieval Days

In mid-June the streets of the municipality are decorated with garlands, tapestries and banners with the weapons of the town, making the portals a lively setting for all the activities and trades that took place in the town in the past centuries.

Representations and Historical Chronicles Kingdom of Nájera

For more than half a century, in the month of July, the Riojan town of Nájera has been taking to the stage to showcase its exciting medieval history. Stories, rites, legends… characters, some of them real and others legendary, which together with the music and the light create a unique atmosphere from which stories emerge, mixing fantasy and reality, and which manage to immerse the spectator in medieval Nájera.

Battle of El Clarete in La Rioja

One of the last Sundays in July, the famous "Battle of Claret" is celebrated in the Rioja town of San Asensio. Claret is a fresh, young wine made in this part of the Rioja Alta. For this reason, San Asensio is known in the wine world as "The Cradle of Claret Wine".

L’Eroica Hispania is a cycling celebration within the framework of L’Eroica. A race that seeks to recover the values and essence of classic and epic cycling, a route that runs through one of the most important areas of the world in terms of wine production, such as La Rioja. An area of vineyards of great cultural and environmental interest, sister area of the original L’Eroica in Chianti.
