The Minister of Culture, Tourism, Sport, and Youth, José Luis Pérez Pastor, and the Director General of Tourism and Territorial Promotion, Virginia Borges, today, November 18, presented the First La Rioja Food and Wine Conference, which will take place on December 1 at the La Rioja Conference Center, Riojaforum, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Through various talks, professional meetings, and presentations, the event will highlight La Rioja’s leadership in gastronomy and wine tourism. This event in Logroño will serve as a meeting point for winegrowers, wineries, producers, hoteliers, chefs, researchers, distributors, and artisans who make our region a benchmark for food and wine. Pérez Pastor highlighted how in La Rioja “it is no longer possible to explain winemaking without mentioning the region’s gastronomy, which is distinguished by its variety, its contemporary dialogue with other cuisines, and its diversity in formats and prices. All of this is underpinned by the undeniable quality of the product.” This diversity of agents involved in the sector, including producers, hoteliers, theorists, and managers, he continued, encourages the creation of “an event where they can talk to each other, meet, exchange ideas, and listen to other experiences, through which they can recognize opportunities, identify where […]

These awards, presented by Condé Nast Traveler Spain, recognise the region’s gastronomy. Last night, Virginia Borges, Director General of Tourism and Territorial Promotion for the Government of La Rioja, accepted the award recognising La Rioja as Best National Tablecloth in the third edition of the Hotel & Mantel 2025 Awards, presented by Condé Nast Traveler Spain. The jury for these awards, made up of the editorial staff of Traveler Spain and national opinion leaders in tourism and travel, recognised several distinctive strengths of La Rioja and its gastronomy that made it worthy of this award. They highlighted the tenacious work of chefs who work with respect for local produce and the memory of taste, as well as the cult of traditional recipes from a region that blends perfectly with innovation and creativity. Similarly, the wide variety of products from La Rioja has been highlighted, which is undoubtedly the result of the work of all those who, every day, keep the gastronomic identity of La Rioja alive. In turn, the jury’s decision also highlights the coexistence of various cuisines in the same territory, with slow-cooked flavours and traditional stews and casseroles that find their place in new culinary trends that preserve […]

In September, both routes organised a series of cross-tastings between wineries in Haro and Jerez. The aim is to collaborate in promoting wine tourism on both routes, which are the most visited in Spain. Over recent months, the Rioja Alta Wine Route and the Jerez Wine and Brandy Route have strengthened their collaboration to launch joint activities that consolidate both as leading wine tourism destinations. The most recent initiative stems from the institutional twinning between Haro and Jerez de la Frontera, and takes the form of a unique programme of cross-tastings between wineries in both destinations, which will share their wines and experiences. Each tasting will bring together a winery from the Marco de Jerez with another from Haro, in a new format that will allow attendees to enjoy very different wines and styles, but with the same essence: quality and winemaking tradition. This initiative highlights the collaboration between the two Wine Routes, the most visited in Spain, which are working together to promote wine tourism as a driver of cultural, economic and social development. In the words of Alfonso Maestro, manager of the Rioja Alta Wine Route, “in recent months, the Rioja Alta Wine Route and the Marco de […]

Easter is one of those times of the year when you feel like taking a getaway, breaking with routine and immersing yourself in new experiences. On the Rioja Alta Wine Route, we have everything you need for a few unforgettable days: history, gastronomy, nature, wine tourism and traditions that will leave you open-mouthed. If there is a place where Easter is lived with intensity, it is in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. There, the emotional procession of the Disciplinantes, better known as ‘Los Picaos’, is celebrated, a penitential ritual that has been maintained since the 16th century and has survived the passing of the centuries, being carried out today with the same fervor, silence and recollection. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, this tradition is unique in the world and, undoubtedly, an experience that leaves its mark when contemplating the disciplinantes, dressed in white tunics and hood, flagellating their backs with a skein of cotton. In addition, in Logroño, the processions are a spectacle of solemnity and devotion. From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, eleven brotherhoods in sixteen processions take to the streets, recalling in twenty processional steps the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the Lord. In recognition of its […]
March brings with it the first signs of spring and, with them, a new opportunity to discover the Rioja Alta Wine Route in all its splendour. The vineyards wake up after winter and the phenomenon known as ‘the cry of the vine’ begins: the sap starts to flow again, a sign that a new vegetative cycle is underway. This natural spectacle, together with the blossoming almond trees and the incipient greenery of the fields, creates a unique landscape that invites you to walk the trails and enjoy wine tourism in spring. This month is also perfect for delving into the world of wine with unique experiences, such as our new Routes on the Route of the Camino de Santiago (Saturday 15 March), or for preparing your trip to experience the most emblematic traditions of Easter Week in La Rioja, which is just around the corner. March, the awakening of spring on the Rioja Alta Wine Route. Because if there is one time of the year when La Rioja is full of fervour, emotion and tradition, that is Easter. Precisely for this reason, it is also one of the most popular dates on the Rioja Alta Wine Route, so we recommend […]

With his friendly and reflective character, Viyuela invites us to discover what makes the Rioja Alta a unique destination. Thus, each instalment focuses on a key aspect of our land: gastronomy, the Camino de Santiago, the grape harvests, the landscapes and, of course, the pride of being the cradle of Castilian. In short, a campaign that reflects our essence. Es Por Esto Pepe 01 Es Por Esto Pepe 02 Es Por Esto Pepe 03 Es Por Esto Pepe 04 Es Por Esto Pepe 05 Each of the spots has been […]

November brings with it a special charm to the Rioja Alta Wine Route, which, after the grape harvest, is wrapped in unique landscapes and eternal vineyards in golden and ochre tones. It is the ideal time to enjoy a less crowded but equally attractive wine tourism season, where the vineyards rest in peace and quiet and the members continue to offer unforgettable experiences. After the intense activity of the harvest, the vineyards of the Rioja Alta enter a resting phase. This rest, however, does not detract from the beauty of the landscape, which is transformed into a palette of warm colours that covers every corner of the vineyards and creates an ideal setting for exploring them. The vineyards in November offer a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for walks or bike rides. The paths through the vineyards, without the hustle and bustle of the grape harvest, allow for a more intimate connection with nature and the essence of the vine cycle. For example, the wine trails offer a series of hiking routes that allow you to enjoy the beauty of the wine-growing landscape at this time of year. These trails are carefully signposted and adapted to different levels of difficulty, ideal for […]

The town dresses up to celebrate the grape harvest, a tradition that honours the grape harvest and the importance of wine in Rioja culture. A celebration that is a symbol of our roots, our identity and the welcoming character that defines us. San Mateo marks the beginning of the grape harvest and, although its origins date back to the 12th century, this celebration has evolved while maintaining its essence: celebrating the grape harvest and giving thanks for the harvest. The San Mateo fiestas offer a wide variety of activities for all tastes and ages. The programme includes parades, concerts, charangas, peñas, children’s performances, firework displays, pelota tournament, bullfighting events… But one of the most symbolic events is undoubtedly the traditional treading of the grapes, where the first grape juice is obtained and offered to the Virgen de Valvanera, patron saint of La Rioja. This Friday, 9 August, San Millán de la Cogolla celebrates the second edition of the festival ‘VINGUA, talking about wine and language’, which was launched last year and is being held in the vicinity of the Monastery of Yuso. The day will begin with a talk on ‘The culture of honey in medieval monasteries’, given by the beekeeper and expert on the subject, Álvaro Garrido, who owns the beekeeping operation, Campomiel. It will end with a tasting of mead made and directed by himself. Afterwards, there will be a talk on new wine projects that arise from family traditions but are led and ‘rethought’ by the new generations. With a modern and very professional approach, they integrate knowledge and respect for the vineyard and good winemaking practices, as well as market orientation, of which they ‘speak’ the same language. Ricardo Fernández, from Bodegas Abeica and José Gil and Vicky Fernández, from Vignerones de la Sonsierra, from ‘Los Martes of Wine’, will take part in the talk ‘How to sell wines with freshness while respecting their temperature’, alluding to these new generations of winemakers. During the talk, a tasting session will be held with the wines of the participants. Both activities […]

The Rioja Alta Wine Route, and especially its restaurants and gastronomic venues, are in luck. The prestigious National Geographic magazine has just named it “Best Gastronomic Route in Spain” in the II National Geographic Travel Readers’ Choice Awards 2024, an award given to the best destinations, hotels, projects and airlines in the world. The Rioja Alta Wine Route was one of the 75 finalist destinations in the 15 established categories. In the “Best Gastronomic Route in Spain” category, Rioja Alta Wine Route competed against four other outstanding proposals such as Somontano Wine, the Manchego Cheese, Dénia Red Prawn and Garrigues Olive Oil routes. Finally, it was the readers of the magazine, the largest community of Spanish-speaking travellers on the planet, who chose the winners in each category by means of a vote that ended on 11 February. Thus, Ruta del Vino Rioja Alta has been the wine region most loved by the magazine’s readers. “When it comes to wine, there are many Denominations of Origin in Spain and also many routes around their wines. However, one of the most complete is undoubtedly the Rioja Alta Wine Route, which some experts talk about as one of the richest wine regions in […]
Easter was eagerly awaited on the Rioja Alta Wine Route. It is true that 2024 will not be remembered as one of the best, due to the fact that bad weather, rain and cold have been present practically every day and all over the country. Because of the weather, it was not as successful as the most optimistic forecasters had predicted, but it was good enough for the sector to be generally satisfied. Nevertheless, our members admit that cancellations have not been excessive in the case of accommodation, and practically non-existent in the case of restaurants and wineries. Even so, the bad weather may have affected the latecomers, with last-minute bookings that were not made in the end. In the case of accommodation, the occupancy rate has been around 85-90%, even reaching full capacity on the central days of Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Restaurants, for their part, are almost full to capacity, practically every day. As for the origin of the tourism this Easter, there are few novelties with respect to previous editions, almost all of it has corresponded to national tourism and with a wide distribution between the Basque Country, Galicia, Madrid, Catalonia, Valencia… Foreign tourism has also […]
With just a few hours to go before the end of 2023, it is time to take stock of all the good things that this year has left us. For those of us who make up the Rioja Alta Wine Route, the best thing about this year that is coming to an end are the figures it has left us with: Rioja Alta was the second most visited wine route last year, with a total of 313,974 wine tourists. These figures are even more favourable if we add the figures harvested by the three Wine Routes operating in the Rioja Designation of Origin: together we reached 549,737 visitors, crowning our region for the first time as the main wine tourism destination in the country. After this great taste in our mouths, it is time to think about the good resolutions for 2024, which is about to arrive. Doing more sport, spending more time with your loved ones, eating better… these are goals that we all share and that we at the Rioja Alta Wine Route can help you to achieve. So, if your first resolution for 2024 is to travel more and live new experiences, the answer is easy: Rioja […]
The long weekend in December is the perfect time to escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city, discover new destinations and get your strength back before Christmas. Now that the holidays are over, we take stock and are pleased to see that our region is in excellent health in terms of tourism. According to the Directorate General of Tourism of the Government of La Rioja, in statements to Cadena Ser, these holidays have been close to full, with between 80-90% occupancy in accommodation in La Rioja. Very positive figures throughout the territory, and even more so in the case of our partners of the Rioja Alta Wine Route. As they tell us, they have exceeded 90%, reaching 100% occupancy in some cases. Practically all of them corresponded to national tourism and were from Madrid, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Basque Country, Galicia, Extremadura, Andalusia? Visits to wineries have also been in great demand over the long weekend in December, with many of the tours reaching full capacity. It also points to an improvement compared to last year’s data 2022, an increase that translates both in number of visitors, income obtained and number of visits made. In response […]
Just a few days ago, La Rioja hosted the 7th UNWTO World Wine Tourism Conference, a unique opportunity to place our region at the epicentre of the debate on the present and future of wine tourism, which the Rioja Alta Wine Route did not want to miss. Under the slogan ‘Inclusive, sustainable and digital wine tourism: Towards greater territorial cohesion’, over two days, Thursday 23 and Friday 24 November, more than 350 people from up to 40 countries gathered in Logroño to reflect on the challenges facing the sector. Through debates, round tables and presentations, current issues were discussed, such as the need for greater training in the wine market, new trends in wine tourism and the need for greater digitisation to improve experiences and obtain data and information. In addition, for several of our partners, this World Conference was of great value to make themselves known. Such is the case of the wineries of Barrio de la Estación, Bodegas Muga, Bodegas Rioja Alta, Bodegas CVNE, Bodegas Gómez Cruzado, Bodegas Bilbaínas and Bodegas Roda, where attendees travelled to participate in a series of thematic workshops on the link between wine tourism and topics such as gastronomy, art, culture and sustainability, […]
The operators of the Rioja Alta Wine Route have added 313,974 tourists. The new Report of the Tourism Observatory of the Wine Routes of Spain confirms the full recovery of wine tourism after the pandemic. The Spanish Association of Wine Cities (ACEVIN) has announced the publication of its fourteenth Report on the Analysis of Tourism Demand, carried out through the Tourism Observatory of the Wine Routes of Spain. This organisation is the only one in our country that carries out systematic and representative studies to compile information on the evolution of wine tourism. The data provided in this report sheds light on the profile of the wine tourist and how it has evolved over time, analysing aspects such as travel motivations, origin, age and socio-demographic profile of the visitor, length of stay and expenditure, among others. The report, which covers the period from the second half of 2022 to the first half of 2023, reveals that wine tourism has fully recovered from the challenges caused by the pandemic in the last two years. This recovery has not only been rapid, but has also driven a significant increase in wine tourists’ spending at the destination, greater awareness of the Wine Routes […]
Our region has been crowned the country’s leading wine tourism destination by 2022. Wine tourism creates jobs, preserves heritage, maintains the population and fights against depopulation. Accommodation, restaurants, wineries, museums, wine cellars, leisure and active tourism companies, transport, incoming agencies… under the umbrella of the Rioja Alta Wine Route there are around 130 companies in the wine tourism sector that operate in small towns in Rioja Alta. Several of these companies took part in a meeting with some thirty journalists and specialists in gastronomy and tourism, held last week in Madrid. The aim: to convey the concept of sustainability in each of their businesses and areas of activity. It was a passionate debate in which different points of view were expressed about sustainability and the current situation of the wine tourism sector as a driver of social development and job creation. Thus, as Juan Carlos Sancha, oenologist, viticulturist and renowned professor of oenology, pointed out, “there is nothing more sustainable than a vineyard living more than 100 years. Sustainability begins by respecting our inherited viticultural heritage; therefore, it is necessary to recover and preserve our minority native varieties”. For her part, Victoria González, Chief Sustainability Officer at González Byass, stressed […]
If you are lucky enough to be able to enjoy a few days off, the Pilar long weekend is the perfect time to come and visit us. In the middle of the grape harvest, our marvellous landscapes shine in all their splendour and their tones change every day, going from green, to reddish, to ochre… colours that you will keep forever in your memory. Because of this beauty that attracts more and more visitors (last year we were the second most visited Wine Route in Spain), during the autumn and, specifically, for the Pilar long weekend, the proposals of our associates multiply. Our aim is to generate memorable experiences for travellers seeking a new concept of tourism based on wine culture. But always, always, bearing in mind the concept of sustainability in all its facets: economic, social, environmental, heritage, cultural, etcetera. A balance that is turning wine tourism in Rioja Alta into a lever for change. The grape harvest is now the star event and many wineries and companies offer activities to enjoy it and get to know it in this unique setting. In the Agenda section of our website you will find very special events and activities that our […]
Wine tourism in Spain and on the Rioja Alta Wine Route is in luck. This is the result of the 15th Annual Report on Visits to Wineries and Wine Museums associated with the Wine Routes of Spain product club, which confirms the rapid recovery of wine tourism. Specifically, an increase of 51.59% compared to the previous study (2021) and a recovery of 80.85% compared to the visitor figures recorded in the last pre-pandemic report. For the Rioja Alta Wine Route this report is especially relevant, as it endorses our quality offer and places us among the three most visited Wine Routes in Spain during 2022. Together with Marco de Jerez and Ribera del Duero, we hold the privilege of occupying the podium in the number of visitors. Specifically, Ruta del Vino Rioja Alta is in second place, with a total of 313,974 visitors, very close to the most visited, Ruta del Vino y el Brandy del Marco de Jerez, with 333,781 visitors, and distancing itself from the third, Ruta del Vino Ribera del Duero, with 281,918 visitors. The routes with the highest number of visits to wineries are Marco de Jerez (299,823), Rioja Alta (282,954), Penedès (274,445), Rioja Alavesa (221,487), […]
Festivals, events, adventure, open air… Summer is synonymous with freedom. It means having more time to travel, to meet friends, to be with your partner… in a word, to live life. And you know what? our members of the Rioja Alta Wine Route are experts in making it happen for you. If you are thinking of coming to Rioja Alta this summer, we recommend that you take a look at our events calendar first, as you will find some very attractive events here: tastings in special places, such as a castle, a wine cellar or under the stars; concerts and festivals in wineries, such as the popular MUWI; internationally renowned festivals and traditions, such as the Haro Wine Battle or the Clarete Wine Battle in San Asensio, are just some of them. But there is even more, because the Rioja Alta Wine Route is also a destination for learning with the family. For example, to discover the world of beekeeping in a “Bee Sanctuary” dressed as a real beekeeper, to decipher the night skies in stargazing in wineries, to investigate pottery and ceramics in a landmark town like Navarrete or to discover the Romanesque Rioja on a route at the […]
The best trips are enjoyed months before they take place. Specifically, as soon as you imagine them. That is the aim of the new audiovisual campaign of the Rioja Alta Wine Route: to awaken the desire to get to know this land and make wine tourists travel from their home to what will become their new destination. For this purpose, four thematic videos have been recorded, corresponding to specific interests: gastronomy, accommodation, adventure and wine tourism, as well as a fifth video with a general theme, which shows stunning locations and dream landscapes in Rioja Alta. As for the audience, these screenings are aimed at all kinds of profiles: couples, groups of friends, families, adults… Dynamic and agile recordings that become small visual pills to show all the potential of the Rioja Alta Wine Route: centenary wineries, museums, routes of architectural interest, spaces for learning and fun, rural tourism, village festivals… Images that let the imagination run wild and, most importantly, awaken the interest of future visitors. The video dedicated to gastronomy shows that the Rioja Alta Wine Route is a perfect destination to enjoy good food. It is not in vain that we hold the honour of being the […]
The best thing about travelling is that you enjoy it before, during and after the trip. Although some people prefer to arrive and let themselves be carried away by the place and the moment, most of us like to plan our getaway, informing ourselves beforehand through the internet, social networks, friends who have been there before… Whatever the channel, the truth is that, if we want to get the most out of it, we need information. And there is no one better than the tourist offices to make the experience a great one. On the Rioja Alta Wine Route there are 8 tourist information offices spread throughout the territory. At present, this type of service is available in Briones, Haro, Logroño, Nájera, Navarrete, Sajazarra, Cenicero and San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The specialised staff at the tourist offices will undoubtedly be your best guides. In many cases they are neighbours and residents of the town where they also work, so they know every resource in the area inside out. If you are thinking of spending a few days in our region, we encourage you to get advice from them. Briones Tourist Office The Tourist Office of Briones, considered one of […]
We will never tire of repeating it: the Rioja Alta Wine Route is a destination that can be enjoyed in a thousand and one ways throughout the year. You can come for a gastronomic getaway, to explore its culture and heritage or, as we are going to show you below: to put on your mountain shoes and discover its natural wealth. With the Obarenes Mountains as the protagonists, and coinciding with the celebration of World Forest Day, we inaugurate the first of this series through the nature of the Rioja Alta Wine Route. With an average altitude of between 800 and 900 metres, this mountain range is approximately 30 kilometres long and stretches from the Ebro gorges, in Sobrón (Burgos and Álava), to the Conchas de Haro, where the river Ebro separates it from the Cantabria mountain range. It is here, in the far northwest of La Rioja and along several municipalities of the Rioja Alta, such as Foncea, Cellorigo, Galbárruli, Sajazarra, Villalba de Rioja and Haro, where we find the rugged silhouettes of the Obarenes Mountains. An invitation to “get lost” by walking along its well-signposted paths and finding along the way old vineyard guards or cave wine presses […]
Finca Valpiedra, one of the five Familia Martínez Bujanda wineries, has achieved the ‘Wineries for Climate Protection’ certificate, the highest distinction in environmental sustainability for wineries. This prestigious international recognition is an achievement for the family, which reaffirms its firm commitment to sustainability and ecology in its estate, located in Fuenmayor (La Rioja). Finca Valpiedra, which has been part of the Asociación Grandes Pagos de España since its beginnings, has a privileged location, in one of the meanders formed by the Ebro River as it passes through La Rioja. Its spectacular landscape, distributed in three terraces that go down to the river itself, is divided into fifteen different plots with altitudes of over 400 metres. Finca Valpiedra reaffirms its environmental strategy after achieving this certificate, which is another step forward in the work that was already being carried out in all the family’s wineries, and for which they work conscientiously every day. In their crops, the use of pesticides and metals has been reduced to zero to reach a 100% organic production. The use of water resources has been optimised and all of them have photovoltaic installations for self-consumption. But it doesn’t stop here, as they take advantage of any […]
Bodegas Vivanco has finished a new campaign of its winter harvest, a collection of dehydrated tempranillo, garnacha and mazuelo grapes with which they make a very coveted wine in the market: Colección Vivanco 4 Varietales Dulce de Invierno. Usually, these grapes are harvested by hand in December or January, but this year’s 2023 harvest was one of the latest in history, taking place on the morning of 25 January, on a day when the temperature was between 0º and 5º Celsius and the northwest wind was 13 kilometres per hour. In this very special harvest, a team of 30 workers meticulously harvested the grapes at the Finca El Cantillo. They were accompanied by a typical winter scene, with vineyards still covered in snow, protected by the Sierra de Cantabria mountain range and surrounding the winery and the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture. The cold, clear skies and the ghostly and beautiful mists so characteristic of this part of La Rioja Alta are the necessary ingredients for this iconic Bodegas Vivanco wine. In fact, the morning mists, thanks to the proximity of the Ebro River, together with the good drainage of the soil and the cold, dry Cierzo wind, result in […]

Taking up the words of the journalist from Radio […]

The Association for the Development of La Rioja Alta (ADRA), the managing body of the Rioja Alta Wine Route, has launched ‘Extra’, a technological R&D project in augmented reality, which seeks to improve the tourist experiences of visitors. The Riojan companies involved in its development are: Grupo Osaba URK, WAF Estructuras Digitales, Ingeniería e Innovación and Dewenir Desarrollo Software. The project will be deployed in Bodegas Lecea, in San Asensio, with a well-known wine tourism profile, and in the interpretation centre of the recently recovered flour factory La Gloria, in San Millán de la Cogolla, a current emblem of industrial tourism in La Rioja. Augmented reality offers interactive experiences to the user based on the combination of the virtual and physical dimensions, with the use of digital devices. Thus, the planned actions include the dramatisation of everyday scenes of traditional activity, stills or texts, which will be projected between real and augmented vision, on the same plane, to enrich and enhance the user’s experience during the visit. To this end, it will be necessary to equip the facilities with top-level technological infrastructures to complete the experience. In short, the aim of this project is to improve the competitiveness of these […]

Under the oenological direction of Matías Calleja, oenologist and manager, this architectural project by IDOM (Gonzalo Tello and Borja Gómez) and landscaping by Isaac Escalante Camus, makes […]
If autumn is one of the most special times to get to know us, this one will be even more so thanks to the unique proposals we have prepared. The accommodations have proposed stays with special content, including paired menus or special breakfasts, picnic hampers or other complementary activities, in order to satisfy the needs of the most gourmet public. In addition, the wineries will […]

After two years without enjoying the hustle and bustle of the National Pottery and Ceramics Fair of Navarrete N.A.CE., this weekend, 15th, 16th and 17th July, its fourteenth edition will take place. It will do so with a full programme of exhibitions, tributes, conferences, workshops and concerts that will place Navarrete, and the whole Rioja Alta Wine Route, in the spotlight and epicentre of pottery and ceramics. As the mayoress of this town, María Luisa Corzana, explained during the presentation of the Fair, “Navarrete has a soul of clay, it is its hallmark, and, as the only pottery centre in the north of Spain, we want to continue to be a key focus of knowledge”. On this occasion, moreover, with a focus on women and all those women potters who have played an important role throughout history, but who have not been sufficiently recognised. For this reason, and to give them the visibility they deserve, N.A.CE. will bring together in the Ceramics Forum women of recognised professional prestige, such as Ilse Schütz (creator of the Agost Museum and founder of the Ceramology Association), Isabel Fernández del Moral (Director of the ceramics area of the Barcelona Design Museum) or Pepa Jordana […]

When we think of a getaway or a wine tourism trip, images of wineries, vineyards, tastings come to mind… But on the Rioja Alta Wine Route there is also room for art. That is why, on this International Museum Day, we would like to take a look at the exhibition spaces you will find in our different towns and villages. Let’s start with the best known internationally: the Museum of Wine Culture of the Vivanco Foundation, in Briones. Opened in 2004, this museum is considered one of the best in the world. In this complex, made up of the museum itself and the winery, we find the history and culture of wine, a product associated with mythology and religion, with a strong social presence and whose production requires, from the vineyard to the winery, work that captures the essence of traditional tasks. The Vivanco Museum occupies an area of four thousand square metres, with five permanent exhibition rooms that house the collections that the Vivanco family has acquired over the years: from vessels dating back centuries, presses, great works of art (Picasso, Sorolla, Juan Gris, Chillida, Barceló, Genovés, etc.) or audiovisuals where you can discover everything about the history and […]

The Association for the Development of La Rioja Alta (ADRA) presents a new service to guide companies and entrepreneurs in the creation and consolidation of new projects. ADRA+, as it is called, consists of professional advice aimed at both new and established companies that intend to start new projects within the framework of the different lines of aid (Next Generation, Recovery Plan, Transformation and Resilience, among others). To this end, and in order to respond to the main areas of development and growth, ADRA+ will offer services such as guidance on how to start up a business project; advice on project financing through the different calls for aid or advice on how to implement digitalisation systems and sustainability policies in the company. In the words of ADRA’s manager, Alfonso Maestro, the aim is none other than “to prevent any Rural Development project from failing to materialise due to a lack of advice”. “Although our main task is the management of Leader programme aid, we cannot avoid keeping up to date with other existing aid and support that the promoters would appreciate knowing about”, explains the ADRA manager, “hence the possibility of channelling this new service and turning it into a […]

This project will also be supported by Fundación Caja Rioja, an entity that has collaborated with CaixaBank in the launch of the call. ADRA will focus in this project on Land Stewardship, a useful tool for the conservation of natural heritage, which promotes agreements between owners of land/fincas/natural and agricultural areas, together with entities and associations dedicated to the study and conservation of nature. The aim of this project is to raise awareness of land stewardship and its importance for Rioja Alta, thus contributing to the preservation and enhancement of heritage and providing added and differential value both to the territory and to the companies, wineries and municipalities that implement this tool. In short, the aim is to work together, company-municipality-society, in the conservation of Nature, promoting responsible use of natural resources and taking advantage of the possibilities and opportunities offered by this type of voluntary […]
Through its paths, trails and routes, La Rioja Alta becomes an idyllic setting for cycling. If cycling is your favourite means of transport and you are looking for an excuse to make one of the first outings of the year, there is a trail for you on our route. Although there are many ways to discover the corners of La Rioja Alta, one of the ones we like the most is by bike. Going out into nature, breathing fresh air and cycling through the different shades of the countryside and towns of our territory is always a good idea, but it is an even better idea to do it on one of our Wine Trails. You will be welcomed by the vineyards, the municipalities, the traditions, the gastronomy and the plans of the members of the Route. With each pedal stroke, you will get a little closer to the end of the route, although we warn you that you won’t want it to end. Even so, don’t worry, because there will always be kilometres to cover, plans to enjoy and trails to discover. The best panoramic views pass through Cenicero Although somewhat demanding, the 33 kilometres of this trail are […]
The wine tourism brochures “Siete Miradas por el territorio centenario del vino”, published by La Ruta del Vino Rioja Alta, have just won one of the ‘Gourmand Awards’, international awards that recognise the best publications on food and wine in the world. Awarded by the prestigious institution Gourmand International, these awards are divided into different groups and categories. The one awarded to the Rioja Alta Wine Route is part of the “Best in the world. Drink Culture” and, specifically, in the Wine Tourism category. The award-winning brochures “Siete Miradas por el territorio centenario del vino” (Seven glances through the centenary wine territory) offer information on the main tourist attractions that can be found in the municipalities of the Rioja Alta Wine Route, and they do so in a visually attractive way, with practical and very didactic information. These seven views lead us along seven different itineraries: ‘The wine route’, through the most outstanding wineries, wine cellars, wine cellars, museums or wine-related festivals; ‘The route of the ashlars’, through the ancestral homes that have witnessed the passage of time since the 16th century; ‘Small monumental paradises’, to discover the castles, bridges, walls and fortresses, as well as their historical vicissitudes; ‘Between […]

The Rioja Alta Wine Route has something magical that is well known by those of us who are part of it, but its quality and fame transcend borders. Thus, the recently published book The Wine Routes of The World, dedicated to the most important wine routes in ten countries, includes the Rioja Alta Wine Route as an outstanding destination. The book encourages tourists to get to know the different wines of ten countries around the world, taste their gastronomy and get to know the singularities that make their region unique. Thus, the Rioja Alta Wine Route highlights its potatoes with chorizo sausage and vine-shoot chops. Other highlights include the Dinastía Vivanco Wine Museum in Briones, the wine cellars and the winery districts of San Asensio and Haro. And it delves into the particularities of our most characteristic wines and grapes. “The Wine Routes of The World” is a publication created by the World Tourism Organization and Araex Grands Foundation. In the section dedicated to our country, ACEVIN, through Turespaña, has been responsible for executing its contents. In addition to Spain, Argentina, Chile, Germany, Georgia, Italy, Portugal, South Africa, the United States and Argentina are featured. In the section dedicated to […]
The beginning of autumn marks the start of the most beautiful time of the year on the Rioja Alta Wine Route. When we say that our landscapes are like no other, we are not exaggerating. Those who have visited us can confirm that our land shines in all its splendour with colours, aromas and flavours that you will remember forever. The grape harvest is now the star event and many of our wineries and partner companies offer you activities to enjoy it and get to know it in this unique setting. That’s why we encourage you to come and visit us at this special time of the year, in the middle of the grape harvest and with a wonderful landscape that changes day after day. Colours that go from green, to reddish, to ochre… and that will remain engraved in your memory forever thanks to the wine tourism activities that you can share with friends, family or as a couple. And always close to you. Cutting the grapes, visiting the vineyards, having lunch in them or even treading the harvested fruit in the traditional way, with your feet, are just some of the proposals that our partner wineries are offering […]
The Rioja Oriental Wine Route is organising the 3rd International Congress of Historic Wine Cellar Districts, taking up the baton from the Rioja Alta Wine Route and Bodegas Lecea, which hosted the first two editions, and continuing in the line of valuing the Historic Wine Cellar Districts. Thus, on 4 and 5 November, the Centro Fundación Caja Rioja in Arnedo will host this international event, which can be attended in person or followed live via streaming. Numerous experts in the field will meet to discuss the reality of these historic spaces, the problems they face and the future prospects for a sustainable context and permanent activity. This edition will consider how to face the future of the work carried out so far in the identification and recovery of these wine-growing environments that are part of our memory, our culture and the history of our towns and villages. After twenty years of work, the winery districts are of interest to the heritage and society, but above all they need to reflect on their survival and ensure that this can be assured by themselves. But in addition to this reflective approach, the speakers and those attending the conference will be able to […]
Great news for Rioja companies linked to tourism in general and wine tourism in particular. La Rioja has been chosen to host the 7th World Conference of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) on Wine Tourism. This event, which will take place in 2023, will bring together hundreds of professionals related to wine tourism in La Rioja: from wine producers and distributors to tour operators. The news was announced by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the Secretary-General of the UNWTO, Zurab Pololikashvili, during the presentation of the book The wine routes of the world. This publication features the most important wine routes in ten countries, including the Rioja Alta Wine Route. For our region and for the members of the Rioja Alta Wine Route, holding an event of this magnitude will place La Rioja as a benchmark in wine tourism. An unparalleled opportunity for all the companies that form part of the Rioja Alta Wine Route to place ourselves in the international spotlight. In the words of Minister Maroto, the designation of La Rioja as the venue for the conference is: “A recognition for a land that has made wine the centre of its tourism model. […]
On Tuesday 28 September, the first of the “Encounters with the Rioja Alta Wine Route” was held at the Centro Riojano in Madrid. Attendees were able to discover why Rioja Alta is the perfect destination to disconnect, savour and enjoy with all five senses all the wonders of an ancient territory. The event began with the presentation of the Rioja Alta Wine Route by Mr. Félix Caperos, Mayor of Casalarreina, Member of the Parliament of La Rioja and Secretary of ADRA (Association for the Development of the Rioja Alta). He opened the event and invited everyone to live and feel Rioja Alta. After him, the Riojan writer, trainer and lecturer Andrés Pascual told a storytelling-style account of all the charms of La Rioja, such as unusual places to discover, hidden routes and authentic and unmissable experiences: “On the Rioja Alta Wine Route, travellers are immersed in a wine culture that permeates everything else. Because in the Rioja Alta wine is not only drunk; wine is lived. It is part of the great celebrations, but also of the small everyday ceremonies of everyday life. Because, in the end, that is what living is all about: celebrating every moment. Every meal in […]
There are many ways to follow the Camino de Santiago. There are those who take the opportunity to discover the artistic and cultural heritage they pass through on their way; others stop to admire the peculiarities of the natural landscape or those who choose to delight in the local gastronomy. Which of the three types do you identify with? If you are not quite sure, or if you think you are a perfect combination of all of them, you are in the right place, because the Way of St. James as it passes through the Rioja Alta Wine Route will exceed all your expectations. It is said that if the Way of St. James did not pass through La Rioja, it would have to be diverted, because the hospitality of this land is a reference for visitors and pilgrims who are willing to get to know it. Logroño is the end of the 6th stage of the French Way from Roncesvalles, Los Arcos-Logroño. The Way of St. James enters La Rioja from the Navarrese town of Viana and pilgrims enter the old part of the city via the stone bridge over the Ebro. The route runs along Calle Ruavieja, where […]

With the aim of attracting new visitors from the south of France, the Rioja Alta Wine Route has launched new marketing channels aimed at this market, which is of great interest to the region and its member companies. These actions are part of the project “Support for tourism marketing in local international markets” on which the Rioja Alta Wine Route has been working for months. As a result of this work, a website www.routedesvinsrioja.fr has been created where French tourists can consult the options offered by the Rioja region for their holidays: routes, wineries, accommodation, restaurants, heritage… and, therefore, help them to make the final decision on their trip to the Rioja Alta Wine Route. This website is very visual and presents very attractive images to awaken your desire to travel to La Rioja. It also includes practical information on its location, how to get there, wine tourism, gastronomic, nature and cultural resources, as well as all the services provided by the Route’s partner companies: wineries, accommodation, restaurants, active leisure and other complementary services. Our culture, our gastronomy and our villages had their place at the recently concluded FITUR fair. Thus, the quality wine tourism that we promote from the Rioja Alta Wine Route deserved the attention of hundreds of visitors who passed by the La Rioja stand during the five days of the fair. And they were not few in number, as the Rioja stand was one of the most visited, both among tourism professionals and the general public, when it received the award for “Best Stand at FITUR 2021”. Thanks to the broadcasting of four short audiovisuals, the Rioja Alta Wine Route displayed its charms at FITUR 2021 and aroused the curiosity of those who approached the stand, showing itself, as our slogan ‘Close to you’ says, as a close, safe and accessible destination. The audiovisual screens at the Riojan stand showed these videos, each of them aimed at attracting a different type of visitor: family tourism, couples, senior citizens and groups. Travelling with the family on the Rioja Alta Wine Route: The Rioja Alta area is the perfect destination to disconnect, savour, enjoy and lose yourself in nature. A territory for those who wish to approach the world of wine tourism […]
On the Rioja Alta Wine Route we propose to encourage wine tourism with art. Therefore, on this International Museum Day we are going to invite you to enjoy the wonderful open-air museums that can be found in these municipalities. This proposal highlights the cultural heritage of La Rioja and, due to the health situation, it is a solid bet for all kinds of tourists, international and national, due to the safety offered by outdoor activities. An open-air museum includes sculptures and murals that are part of our environment and that make the town an artistic heritage. Are you coming to see them? In Logroño, we can enjoy sculptures that blend into the city’s landscape. The Fountain of the Illustrious Riojanos, commonly known as ‘Wet Backs’, and the busts of iconic figures such as Castroviejo, Zubía and Sagasta stand out. The equestrian statue of General Espartero, located in the Plaza del Espolón, also stands out. In addition to these emblematic sculptures, there are other lesser-known but no less talented ones, such as those of the ‘IX Centenario’, ‘Homenaje a la mujer’, ‘Monumento a la familia’, ‘Naves de paso’… We must not forget the sculpture ‘The Crucible of wine civilisations’ located at […]
Good news for our partner Museo Vivanco de la Cultura del Vino, which has had the honour of having its image on a postage stamp. The Vivanco Museum becomes part of the philatelic series ‘Museums’, in which the Lázaro Galdiano Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Museum of Human Evolution in Burgos, the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao and the Museum of Arts and Sciences in Valencia have appeared to date. Among the numerous requests received each year, the State Philatelic Commission chooses those motifs considered to be most representative, of greatest social significance or most closely linked to our cultural heritage. On this occasion, those chosen were the Vivanco Museum of Wine Culture, the Postal and Telegraphic Museum of Madrid and the National Museum of Roman Art in Mérida. Correos will put into circulation a print run of 150,000 stamps of these three emblematic museums dedicated to art and our history. The postal value of each stamp is 1.50€. Specifically, the motif reproduced on the stamp dedicated to the Vivanco Museum are two centenary presses: a Castilian walnut and elm wood press from the end of the 18th century and the 19th century Asturian sobigaño press. The fact that […]
Easter Week 2021 will always be remembered for the influx of visitors from La Rioja who have become ambassadors of their own land. During the last few holidays, dozens of people have come to the municipalities of the Rioja Alta Wine Route attracted by the quality and quantity of their wine tourism proposals. The desire to enjoy was palpable in the air, and the good weather has been with us every day, allowing us to carry out all the activities, both outdoors and indoors. Such has been the success of the event that many people have been left without places in some of the most popular ones. If this is your case, or if you want to come back, you should know that the Rioja Alta Wine Route is now in full swing and, as always, close to you. Every weekend you’ll find some great ideas for things to do in our wineries, vineyards, cellars, restaurants… However you come: with your family, as a couple, with friends or on your own, all you have to do is consult our events calendar to find the one that fits your desires like a glove. You can even plan your own getaway and […]
What do you fancy doing at Easter? Actually, it’s not a trick question, because the Rioja Alta Wine Route offers you so many suggestions that you won’t even be able to imagine. Bodegas Lecea, in San Asensio, invites us to take a ride through the vineyards in a horse-drawn carriage; but not before enjoying another interesting proposal: pruning the vines and recovering your strength with a Riojan lunch in the vineyard where you can enjoy homemade omelette, sausage, cheese and local bread. To end the day, a visit to the winery with wine tasting. Although if you prefer a hearty Riojan meal, at Lecea you can also enjoy potatoes with chorizo and vine-shoot chops, accompanied by a visit to the winery’s century-old cellars and a tasting of three of its wines. And for those who prefer to see only the four 16th century cellars, without staying for lunch, they can also do so, with a commented tasting of three wines. Without leaving the capital of La Rioja, Bodegas Viña Ijalba, the first organic winery in Rioja, tempts us with another suggestive proposal: to “become” grapes and follow the same route from the time they leave the vineyard until they are […]

The aim of this new platform is to bring together all the wine tourism experiences of the companies and entities, and make them available to visitors who enter the website www.wineroutesofspain.com, which aspires to become the benchmark for wine tourism in our country. Subsequently, the technical office will verify their membership of the Route and will enable them to create new experiences. What types of experiences will be accommodated An enotourist experience is understood to be an “activity related to the wine-growing wealth of a specific territory, whether through the landscape, vineyards, wineries, gastronomy, history etc., which also meets the criteria of uniqueness, authenticity and attractiveness for the enotourist and has a high experiential and innovative content”. The pandemic prevented it last year, all the more reason for the Vivanco Foundation to announce with even greater enthusiasm a new edition, the thirteenth, of the Pedro Vivanco International Print and Wine Award. An award that has placed our territory in the national and international spotlight of art and culture. In this competition, artists are asked to draw their inspiration from the sensorial and artistic universe of wine. Each year it brings together a greater number of national and foreign applicants, making the culture of wine in general and La Rioja in particular increase its notoriety around the world and arousing greater interest in visiting us. In this edition, the Vivanco Foundation and the Escuela Superior de Diseño de La Rioja (ESDIR) invite artists to send -until Monday 19th April- unpublished prints that have not been presented in other editions or awards, and that focus on the suggestive world of wine. Each author may submit a maximum of two works. The jury will meet on Friday 7 May, although it will not be an easy task, as this 2021 promises to be a very special encounter with the art of engraving. If the situation allows it, on Friday 25 […]
The Rioja Alta Wine Route has been chosen to feature in the latest issue of Magazine, the magazine published by Rutas del Vino de España. Our land occupies the space dedicated to the “featured article” and, as such, this publication has reserved a total of nine pages for it, written in Spanish and English, and accompanied by the most beautiful images. The report highlights the history, richness and diversity of our region’s heritage; our wine culture, which includes everything from century-old wineries and wine cellars to more innovative, recently created projects. It also refers to the character of the people of La Rioja, of whom it highlights “the hospitality of their villages and their people”. A report on the Rioja Alta Wine Route could not fail to mention the gastronomy of the land: “the magnificent restaurants, inns and grills of the Rioja Alta allow you to enjoy Rioja vegetables on the day they are harvested in the orchards, as well as delighting in the intoxicating aroma of stewed veal or tasting the tasty vine-shoot roast cutlet”, say the editors. And among the outstanding festivities, the magazine mentions the Batalla del Clarete pilgrimage in San Asensio; the Jornadas Medievales de Briones; […]
How do you imagine La Rioja Alta in the year 2040? With this image in mind and this question in the air, several of our partners of the Rioja Alta Wine Route participated in an online workshop aimed at gathering suggestions and ideas to improve the territory in 20 years’ time. This action, organised by the Association for the Development of La Rioja Alta (ADRA) and included in the European project “Long-term vision for rural areas”, was attended by some twenty representatives of municipalities, associations and private companies. They were all asked the same questions: What would you like your territory to be like in 20 years’ time; what aspirations do you consider most significant in terms of scope and impact; what are the most significant gaps; where is the greatest potential; and what are the paths and actions needed to make our vision a reality? Starting from personal aspirations, the current situation of the territory and existing global trends, for two hours participants responded, debated and, most importantly, contributed to building a shared future together. The workshop was attended by: Felix Caperos, Casalarreina Town Council. Eric Van den Ackerveken, City Council of Cenicero Mila Díez, FADEMUR Daniel Osés, Riojan […]
San Vicente de la Sonsierra offers a large number of attractions for wine tourists and, from now on, it will have two more. After months of work, work has now been completed on the “Enhancing the value of the Castle’s wine cellars” project, which has adapted two municipal-owned wine cellars for future visits. Through this project developed in 2020, these two coves will be incorporated into the guided tours offered by the municipal tourist office, which will greatly improve the tourist experience. On the hill of the fortress of San Vicente there are a hundred or so caves of different depths and surfaces. With the implementation of this project, this important heritage linked to wine culture and to the past, present and future of the town will be enhanced. The cellars in caves -calados- take advantage of the properties of the subsoil, which gives them a stable temperature and humidity throughout the year for the ageing and storage of the wine. These cellars are also part of the museum project developed, thanks to which visitors will learn a little more about the history of the cellars, the history of traditional winemaking and the wine cellars and the heritage of the […]
The first days of 2021 and the passage of the Filomena squall have given us a picture that we have not seen for many years. Mountains, valleys, riverbanks, vineyards… the snow has made the Rioja Alta Wine Route even more beautiful and some of our wineries have not hesitated to upload their photographs to the social networks. This has been done, for example, by Bodegas Marques de Vargas, which has shared these beautiful images on its Instagram profile that give a good account of the state of the vineyards also in the capital of La Rioja. From Haro, we see this other beautiful photograph that Bodegas Martínez Lacuesta has posted on its social networks, indicating that the vines are delighted with this extra supply of water provided by the snow. Another different perspective is offered by Bodegas Muga, also in Haro, which from its Instagram account takes us to a typical winter landscape. Bodega El Arca de Noe has also photographed the wonderful images that Filomena has left on her way through San Asensio. Source: Instagram. In our journey through the winter images of La Ruta del Vino Rioja Alta, we could not miss Bodegas David Moreno, in San Asensio, […]
The Management Committee of the Wine Routes of Spain has met to analyse the actions carried out during 2020 and to design the best work strategy for 2021, a year in which the entire tourism sector hopes to regain momentum. Among these promotional actions for next year, those related to internationalisation stand out, based on the agreements and action plans that ACEVIN and Wine Routes of Spain have been developing for years with the Secretary of State for Tourism and TURESPAÑA. During 2021, different Wine Routes will host press and tour operator trips, organised in collaboration with the Spanish Tourism Offices around the world. In this way, the international projection of our wine destinations will continue to be strengthened by supporting the promotion and marketing of the Wine Routes of Spain. The United States, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany are the priority markets, although others such as Canada, Mexico, Italy, France, Portugal and the Scandinavian countries are also being considered. In the balance of 2020, the data on wine tourism in our country collected by the Tourism Observatory of the Wine Routes of Spain have continued to show the growing interest of travellers in wine tourism, although […]
The agricultural organisation ARAG-ASAJA has launched a campaign to promote the consumption of Riojan foodstuffs. The campaign is called ‘The real taste of Christmas is very close’ and the Rioja Alta Wine Route has also collaborated in it to promote the agricultural sector and recognise the work of farmers and stockbreeders in La Rioja. The agricultural organisation also seeks to promote direct sales to provide an outlet for products such as wine, beef, kid and lamb, which are some of the products that are suffering the most from the restrictive measures of this health crisis. Another of the objectives of this campaign is to provide a positive view of the origin and quality of all the food produced in La Rioja. This initiative continues the work set in motion with the project ‘Better the Closer’ in which ARAG-ASAJA, with the collaboration of the Protected Geographical Indication Pimiento Riojano, the La Rioja Sheep and Goat Association (AROVI) and the local action groups CEIP-Rural, ADRA and ADR La Rioja Suroriental, promoted direct sales in La Rioja this year. As part of this campaign, ARAG-ASAJA offers producers who are agricultural professionals, that is, who are registered with the Agricultural Social Security or declare […]
The beauty of Cuzcurrita de Río Tirón is not new to us. And, from now on, technology will make it possible for it to be known by many more people. Recently, the new Cuzcurrita Tourism website has been presented, which allows you to take a virtual tour through spectacular 360º images. There is also a mobile application available app.turismocuzcurrita.com https://app.turismocuzcurrita.com/ with which you can take a self-guided tour, discover places to visit and contact local establishments, many of which are members of the Rioja Alta Wine Route. With these tools, the aim is to promote tourism in Cuzcurrita adapted to the current context: in a safe way -without paper brochures- self-guided and in small groups. Not forgetting the visually impaired, who, thanks to the voiceovers on both the website and the app, will be able to follow the indications of the proposed routes.

In this Entrepreneurial Women’s Day the Rioja Alta Wine Route would like to pay particular tribute to all our members. Winemakers, hoteliers, chefs… all of them successfully run their respective businesses. They decided one day to undertake their own projects in the rural environment, with what it means in terms of job creation, settlement of the population and example for other entrepreneurs. For all these reasons, and many others, today is the day to remember Blanca Baños, manager of Bohedal Winery in Cuzcurrita, and one of the first women to assume this position in a Rioja Wine España winery; or Silvia del Campo from Calado 1880 Winery in Cenicero. On this day, we also cannot forget about Carmen Enciso, winemaker for 30 years and a founding member of Valenciso Winery in Ollauri, nor of course of the Ayagar Wineries in Hormilleja, with Marivi directing it since 2004. There are also many women in the tourism sector, such as Elena Maiso and his newly opened cottage El Mirador de Eloísa in Rodezno; or Laura Lopez, in the front of an old 17th century mansion that has been restored and converted into the Hospederia Teatrisso in Cuzcurrita. But there is much more female presence in the tourist hotel sector, as is the case with Angela […]
David Moreno Peña, founder of David Moreno Winery has been recognized with the prestigious Mercury Business Life Award 2020. An award that endorses his career of more than 30 years at the head of these wineries built in Badarán, his home town, in 1988. A whole life dedicated body and soul to his winery has paid off. Not in vain, these awards given by the Marketing Club of La Rioja for 39 years are one of the most coveted by the business network of La Rioja. The jury of the Mercury Awards has defined David as “a hard-working, brave, generous man, and a magnificent wothy of this award. A visionary who has created this winery with a lot of effort, dedication and care”. For David Moreno, this award represents the effort, passion and love he has lavished throughout his business career. And these are values that the winemaker has transmitted to his two daughters Gemma and Paula, and to the rest of his team. Today they make wines with their own identity that show the typical features of this area of Rioja, the Alto Najerilla, whose high altitude vineyards and old vines give their wines personality, quality and respect for the Terroir.
The Spanish Association of Wine Cities (ACEVÍN) has recognized Lecea Winery with the 5th National Wine Tourism Award ‘Spanish Wine Routes. Our partner Ignatius Posada in Navarrete, has been included as an example in the Guide to Good Practice for the Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 of the Government of La Rioja. Rioja Alta Wine Route has collaborated in the publication of this guide which includes those projects subsidised by FEADER which, like Posada Ignatius, are considered to be of particular relevance. Posada Ignatius was inaugurated in April 2018 after a complete restoration of Duke of Nájera Palace. This is a 15th-century building that took three years to build. The result: a high quality hotel resource that did not exist in the region until its opening. Its uniqueness has made accommodation a tourist resource in itself, attracting visitors and generating economic flow in the municipality. In addition, it has created 6 jobs. The Rural Development Programme 2014-2020 seeks to achieve sustainable management of natural resources and a more economically and socially balanced territory. Specifically, this Programme pursues the following objectives: Job creation, with special attention to young farmers and rural entrepreneurs and, within them, women; the modernisation of agricultural holdings to make their products more competitive on the market; the improvement and modernisation of irrigation infrastructure; the training of farm owners, through training courses and specialised advice; the […]
