With just a few hours to go before the end of 2023, it is time to take stock of all the good things that this year has left us. For those of us who make up the Rioja Alta Wine Route, the best thing about this year that is coming to an end are the figures it has left us with: Rioja Alta was the second most visited wine route last year, with a total of 313,974 wine tourists. These figures are even more favourable if we add the figures harvested by the three Wine Routes operating in the Rioja Designation of Origin: together we reached 549,737 visitors, crowning our region for the first time as the main wine tourism destination in the country.
After this great taste in our mouths, it is time to think about the good resolutions for 2024, which is about to arrive. Doing more sport, spending more time with your loved ones, eating better… these are goals that we all share and that we at the Rioja Alta Wine Route can help you to achieve.
So, if your first resolution for 2024 is to travel more and live new experiences, the answer is easy: Rioja Alta Wine Route. A destination close to you, accessible at any time of the year. Another of the most recurrent resolutions at the start of the new year is to eat better and healthier. Our 17 associated restaurants, authentic temples of Rioja gastronomy, are committed to local, sustainable and zero kilometre products. Places where the expression “good eating” reaches its maximum expression. Restaurants that respect the environment and extol the local produce by combining modern cuisine with flavours that are close to the land of La Rioja.
And if you are thinking of doing more sport, on the Rioja Alta Wine Route you can and should put on your trainers. Go for the bicycle and pedal along its dream paths, gathered together in the Wine Trails. If cycling is your favourite means of transport and you are looking for an excuse to make one of the first outings of the year, there is a trail for you on our route. Whether you are an experienced BTT Bike rider and want to do an enotourist route through the sierras, or if you prefer something more gentle to spend an entertaining family morning, you will find several companies that can provide you with a bike rental service and guidance on more and less demanding routes for all audiences. Another fun and unconventional way of doing sport is in the water. If you’re a fan of the aquatic environment, you can go kayaking on the Ebro River, which, as well as being refreshing, will allow you to get to know the local flora and fauna from an unknown perspective.
Have you set yourself the goal for 2024 to make a pilgrimage to Santiago? The Camino de Santiago as it passes through the Rioja Alta Wine Route will exceed all your expectations. They say that if the Camino de Santiago did not pass through La Rioja, it would have to be diverted, because the hospitality of this land is a reference for visitors and pilgrims who are willing to know it.
