With the December long weekend already looming on the calendar, the members of the Rioja Alta Wine Route are getting ready to make you enjoy a few days of your dreams. A perfect time to escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city; to get to know our villages and let yourself be carried away by the slow and calm rhythm that you can breathe here.
But be careful, don’t confuse peace and quiet with boredom. Take a look at the Agenda section of our website and you will understand what we are talking about. Very special events and activities that our members have lovingly programmed for these days. Among them, these:
Bodega Cvne, in Haro, will be open for visits from the 3rd to the 9th of December. It will also open its wine bar in the evening, from 18:00 to 20:00. See specific days, opening hours and more information for bookings on their website.
In Briñas, Bodegas Tobelos opens its facilities this December bank holiday, with a choice of three different types of visits: a tour of the winery that ends with a tasting; a visit to the vineyard and winery, also with a tasting; or a very special visit to its unique vineyard “Los Quiñones” next to a necropolis and a 12th century hermitage, which also includes the tasting of three wines. Its wine bar will remain open and visitors will be able to choose between three different types of explanatory tastings, all accompanied by Rioja cheese and sausages. As a detail with its visitors, the winery shop will enjoy a 10% discount during these days. Bookings and information here.
Bodegas Montecillo, in Navarrete, will be open from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 December to attend to the public, both in the winery and in its wine bar. They will offer two types of guided tours -basic and premium-, as well as their popular “escape room” through the foundational winery. Not only that, but on the 8th and 15th of December they will have a very special activity: a “Perfume and wine workshop” where you can enjoy and discover the different aromas that both give off and, at the end, enjoy a wine and aperitif tasting. From the town of Ábalos, the family winery Bodegas Solana de Ramírez offers us the chance to learn about wine culture up close and personal, as the winemakers themselves will be in charge of showing the winery, sharing their experiences and knowledge with visitors. At the end, there will be a commented tasting of three of their wines. More information here.
In Haro, Bodegas Ramón Bilbao has prepared a wide range of activities for the long weekend in December. Different types of visits to get to know this century-old winery from unique perspectives. Visit from the vine to the glass’, ‘Visit pairing stave duel’ or ‘Visit harmony wines and cheeses’ are some of them, but there are more that you can consult and book directly from here. In addition, its wine bar, for which it is not necessary to book in advance, and its restaurant (by reservation) will be open every day.
Another of Rioja’s centenary wineries is Bodegas Riojanas, in Cenicero, which has no less than 125 years of history. During this long weekend, it encourages you to feel the wine and discover first-hand its production process through an enotourist journey through time. Guided tours among the “Wine Sensations” and accompanied by a tasting with an aperitif. See more information.
As well as wineries, on the Rioja Alta Wine Route you can also visit a cheese factory. Queso Los Cameros offers guided tours to immerse yourself in its culture. You will visit the cheese factory located in Haro with an explanation of the process: pasteurisation, curdling, salting, maturing… And finally, you can taste some of their products, including extra virgin olive oil. After these incredible experiences, there is nothing better than a gastronomic finishing touch to round off the day. For the upcoming holidays, the restaurant Nublo, in Haro, offers us the “Experience Menu”. With a Michelin Star and a Sol Repsol, Nublo’s cuisine is a small artisan workshop where the emphasis is on rest, calm, slow fire, selection, origin, product and producers.
