Freedom to continue or to stay, to improvise the itinerary as you go along, to wake up in front of dream landscapes… The possibilities offered by motorhome tourism are endless and at La Ruta del Vino Rioja Alta we have all the ingredients to exceed travellers’ expectations by far.
In recent years, especially with the arrival of the coronavirus in our lives, the number of people and families opting for this type of tourism has multiplied exponentially. Last year alone, 8,575 motorhomes and campers were registered in Spain, which is 5.5% more than in 2020.
Whether you belong to the group of newcomers or if this world has no secrets for you, you should know that on the Rioja Alta Wine Route we have several safe areas for parking with motorhomes.
Take note:
Entrepuentes Motorhome Area (San Vicente de la Sonsierra).
The area is located next to the banks of the Ebro (between the medieval bridge and the modern bridge) and at the foot of the walled enclosure. From here you can enjoy breathtaking views and the peace and quiet of the flowing river Ebro.
It has 20 parking spaces and is free of charge. It is equipped with a drinking water supply and a grey and black water disposal point.
Casalarreina
The Casalarreina area, also free of charge, is strategically located next to the swimming pools and the “El Soto” pelota court, behind the Monastery of La Piedad. From here, and taking a leisurely stroll, you can discover the entire historic quarter, declared a Historic-Artistic Site of National Interest.
Hormilla
In the municipality of Hormilla, just 5 kilometres from Nájera and less than 1,000 metres from the haven of peace that is the Botanical Garden of La Rioja, you will find this area, which has services (at a cost) such as:
- Parking + water change, 6/8€ (depending on hours).
- Overnight stay (18 to 10 hours) + water change + electricity + showers: 12€.
- Water change only: €3 (ask for key at the cash desk) Free if you fill up with €40 of diesel.
There is also a restaurant, shop and LPG.
Sajazarra
The next area for motorhomes is in Sajazarra, declared “One of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain”.
The stay is authorised for a maximum of 72 hours, enough time to explore the town centre (300 metres away), discover its hotels and wineries, stroll through its historic quarter, admire its mansions, its emblazoned palaces, its squares and charming spots…
Logroño
We arrive in Logroño, the largest municipality on the Rioja Alta Wine Route, and also the capital of the province. Its motorhome area is free of charge and its location, next to the Las Norias sports complex and swimming pools, makes it ideal for the summer months.
Cihuri
In the municipality of Cihuri you will find this area for 40 people and authorised stay of up to 5 days. The municipal swimming pool is just a few metres away. Don’t miss its Roman bridge, its archaeological site and a stroll through its peaceful parks. Parking in this area has the following costs:
From October to March: between 3 and 4€/day. From April to September: between 4 and 5€/day.
Water change: €2.
Baños de Río Tobía
The last town where you can spend the night is Baños de Río Tobía. Its motorhome area is located 400 metres from the village and you can use the showers in the sports centre for 2€. On a stroll through Baños de Río Tobía you can admire its Town Hall (16th century), the Salazar Palace (17th century), the Church of San Pelayo and the Ermita del Rosario (Rosary Chapel). And don’t leave without tasting or buying its sausages and wines.
In addition to having parking areas, it is important to highlight that our experience with this type of tourist has always been exceptional, being more than welcome in our villages, wineries, restaurants and establishments in general.
