This Sunday, 26 July, San Asensio, known as the Home of Clarete Wine, celebrates one of the most unique and iconic events on the Rioja Alta Wine Route: the 47th Clarete Wine Battle. Recognised as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, it brings together thousands of people every year, all dressed in white, to take part in a lively wine battle where clarete takes centre stage.

The day begins at 11:00 am with the distribution of traditional clay jugs and preñados (bread rolls filled with chorizo) in the arcades of the Town Hall. At 12:00 pm, a parade through the historic Wine Cellar District, accompanied by a local brass band, leads up to the highlight of the day: the start of the Clarete Wine Battle at 1:00 pm. Throughout the celebration, visitors can also enjoy tastings of local wines, a parade back to Plaza Nueva, another wine tasting at 3:00 pm, and live music with DJ Erika to round off the festivities.

A must-visit event to experience Rioja Alta’s festive wine culture, discover a truly unique tradition, and enjoy the atmosphere, gastronomy and wines of San Asensio.
