June has something special along the Rioja Alta Wine Route. The days are long, the temperatures invite you to spend more time outdoors, and the landscape reaches one of its most spectacular moments of the year. The vineyards display an intense green color, terraces come alive, and towns celebrate some of their most emblematic festivals.
It is the perfect time for a getaway before the summer holidays. Without the crowds of July and August, June allows you to discover Rioja Alta at a relaxed pace, enjoying its heritage, gastronomy, and, of course, its wine culture.
La Rioja Dresses for Celebration
June brings together some of the most emblematic celebrations in La Rioja. Tradition, history, popular culture, and wine come together in a festive calendar that makes this month one of the most attractive times to visit the region.
One of the major events of the month is the San Bernabé Festival, which will fill Logroño with history, tradition, and a festive atmosphere from June 6 to 12. Declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest, it features nearly 300 activities including historical reenactments, a Renaissance market, folklore, concerts, and gastronomic experiences. A unique opportunity to discover the capital of La Rioja at one of its liveliest times of the year.
June also brings one of the most anticipated events in Rioja Alta: the Briones Medieval Days. On June 20 and 21, this town—considered one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain—travels back several centuries to become an authentic medieval village. More than 700 people take part in this historical reenactment, transforming the streets into a living stage filled with traditional crafts, period characters, and everyday scenes from the 14th century. A unique experience that attracts thousands of visitors each year.

But if there is one celebration that draws attention from all over the world, it is the Haro Wine Battle, which takes place on June 29. Declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest, thousands of people gather each year at the Riscos de Bilibio to take part in a unique tradition where wine is the main protagonist. After the mass and religious events in honor of San Felices de Bilibio, a lively “battle” begins in which participants of all ages soak each other in wine in an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie that is hard to find anywhere else.
And for those who enjoy discovering new gastronomic experiences, on June 6 Haro hosts “El Mariano,” the Rioja Vermouth Festival. A day dedicated to vermouth culture with tastings, workshops, live music, and traditional food. The perfect plan to start the month by toasting with some of the finest vermouths produced in La Rioja.
The Vineyard at Its Most Photogenic
June is also one of the best months to enjoy the Rioja Alta landscape. The vines are in full growth, and the vineyards create a vast green carpet stretching between villages, wineries, and mountains.
It is an ideal time to explore the Wine Trails, discover one of our viewpoints, or enjoy outdoor activities such as cycling routes, guided walks through the vineyards, or nature experiences.
The last hours of the day also offer some of the most beautiful images of the year. The golden light of sunset turns any corner of Rioja Alta into the perfect setting for an unforgettable photograph.
Wine, Gastronomy, and Terraces
With the arrival of good weather, many wineries and establishments along the Rioja Alta Wine Route move part of their activity outdoors. Wine bars, courtyards, gardens, and terraces become privileged spaces to enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the landscape.
This is complemented by a gastronomy that, at this time of year, is full of seasonal products and dishes designed to be shared at a leisurely pace. From a traditional Rioja meal to a paired tasting or an open-air degustation, June invites you to enjoy life’s small pleasures.
A Getaway That Has It All
Popular festivals, charming villages, vineyards in full splendor, gastronomy, and wine tourism experiences for all tastes. June brings together all the ingredients to become one of the best months to visit the Rioja Alta Wine Route.
