Facing the meander of the Ebro River, the Enbrión winery is located in La Cueva del Americano, from where you can see, feel and appreciate any sensation that originates from the vineyards or the Ebro River itself. A small family business that for more than 30 years has been developing and dedicating itself to viticulture with some 20 hectares of vineyards and producing the native fermentation yeast of the D.O.C. Rioja.
A 17th century cave
The Cueva del Americano is the nerve centre of the Enbrión winery, of our vital project. Where old stories are told and new ones are created. The renovation of the cave has been a long process, we have put a lot of effort and patience into it, but the result fills us with enthusiasm and joy. We have been helped by great experts and with their advice we have managed to restore an old cave, which they say may be more than 300 years old, and turn it into a place where we can work with what we like most, people and wine. La Cueva del Americano is located in “Acera del medio” as it is known today and is a designation that appears in the 19th century, a date when many more cellars were also excavated and extended due to the demand that arose from 1877 onwards.
Wine tourism:
PETIT COMITÉ TOUR: The Petit Comité tour is designed for a small group of people or two or three couples. We will start the visit at our iconic Piedra, located in front of the meander facing the Ebro, to learn about the history of the beautiful Barrio de las Bogedas, also known as Caralebro and explore the ancient caves that are in the process of recovery. Once inside, we will enter the impressive sandstone cave and discover part of the “secret” network of tunnels that connects different caves in the village through the bowels of Briones. The Trujal will be the ideal place to understand the “magical” process of converting grapes into wine. During the visit we will be pairing our wines with top quality products produced by our friends in the village and those we have throughout the length and breadth of the Iberian Peninsula. We will continue the visit in front of the unforgettable view of the Ebro, which falls from the balconies of the Salón del Americano. At this point we will begin to reveal who the Americano was and how and where he made his fortune before returning to the village where he was born. At the same time, we will introduce you to our menu of friends: reds, whites and other wines.
