Our gastronomic proposal at the Hotel Santa María Briones is about enjoying food as it is done in La Rioja, about meeting, celebrating and disconnecting with local, honest flavours, with top-quality raw materials from La Rioja’s orchards and local producers. To treat the product with techniques that elevate it, and to savour it in an idyllic setting where the different gastronomic spaces of the hotel acquire their own personality, creating an authentic and complete gastronomic offer. Honeyed and crunchy lamb on sweet potato cream and panko crumbs, flaked cod on apple, tomato and its honey mustard vinaigrette, blanched green beans, crispy cheek and potato, are some of the dishes that parade through the dining room accompanied by a selection of the best wines of La Rioja. Brands Betolaza Tempranillo, Betolaza Crianza, Betolaza Reserva, Magadi (barrel-aged white wine) Calitrancos (plot wine). A small family winery with its own vineyard in Briones. Its good work in the field of viticulture is passed down from father to son. You will be guided through its facilities by a “Betolaza”. Who better to take you on a tour? You will be able to visit the winery where they will explain the elaboration and ageing of their wines, and you will visit the vineyards and learn about the work that is carried out throughout the year. All these options end with a tasting of three of their wines together with an aperitif. But you will also have the option of tasting their wines without the visit, in an old family cellar. The building is built in ashlar masonry, in the form of a hall, with an octagonal chancel with three sections, covered with star-shaped ribbed vaults of different designs that support pointed arches and cylindrical pillars. The main complex is in the Catholic Monarchs and Renaissance style, from the 16th century. The chancel was erected in 1521. The sacristy is rectangular and divided into four chapels by pilasters, finished in 1680. It has a magnificent carving of the Assumption of the Virgin.
The Vivanco Foundation’s Museum of Wine Culture was inaugurated in mid-2004 and is one of the most important private initiatives on the world of wine and its economic, social and cultural dimensions. In this complex, consisting of the museum itself and the winery, we find the history and culture of wine, a product associated with mythology and religion, with a strong social presence and whose production requires, from the vineyard to the winery, work that captures the essence of traditional tasks. Casa Rural el Mesón has a rustic and traditional style in a building that was originally a wine tavern where they used to buy and sell WINE. After its restoration in 2000, the accommodation has 8 spacious double rooms fully equipped and whose names are inspired by the grape varieties typical of the vineyards of La Rioja; tempranillo, garnacha, mazuelo, graciano, viura, malvasía, garnacha blanca and calagrano. Come to Briones and visit our rural house surrounded by a very large space with a garden area and a small vineyard, with vines representative of all the grape varieties grown in the Rioja Alta.

Visitors can enjoy traditional cuisine with innovative and modern touches in an incomparable setting, two 17th century wine cellars, which preserve all the charm and flavour of traditional winemaking. The restaurant has a 50-seat dining room and another 35-seat dining room on the lower floor.

Our boutique hotel is located in a 16th century manor house, listed for its high historical value, located near the Torreón and the walls of the Forties of the medieval town of Briones. The hermitage of San Juan or Santo Cristo de los Remedios is a beautiful building with a centralised structure located in the centre of the historic quarter of Briones. It was built between 1737 and 1748 on the site of the old hermitage of San Juan. On the façade there is a niche with the image of San Juan, the patron saint of the original church. The hermitage we can see today was built by the master builder Juan Bautista Arbaizar, assisted by his son-in-law Ignacio de Elejalde. It is remarkable for its octagonal plan inscribed in a rectangle and its large central dome. Inside, altarpieces, paintings and carvings from the period are preserved. It is delimited by cylindrical buttresses and has a lintelled entrance with a mixtilinear moulding between Corinthian columns that support the entablature. In the second section there is a niche between pilasters with the typical mixtilinear moulding finials. The image that guards this niche reminds us that the chapel was built on top of the previous ruined chapel of San Juan Bautista. The façade ends with the single-egg belfry that crowns the whole.
